Business Ideas to Explore in 2015 and Beyond Part1

As opposed to some school of thoughts, I believe that Nigeria has the most potent and viable but not totally tapped market in the world. With her over a 100mllion and increasing population yearly, there is now as it is a certain outburst and constant yearning for various service delivery in various sectors ranging from Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Education, “Green Energy” (Waste Management), Fashion etc. In this post, I will dwell on two sectors and subsequently write on others.

The ICT and Education
Nigeria even at her pace in trying to catch up with the latest techs is late compared to the western world. The ICT is still an emerging and vibrant trend that hasn’t reached its peak in Nigeria and on the other hand, the need and hunger for knowledge is on the rampage and the burden to provide and pass across this acquired knowledge efficiently and effectively in such a top notch manner is getting heavier for the government to bear there by opening the floor for private investors. Opening schools (primary, secondary and tertiary) are not the only ways to pass knowledge across. What opportunities await you in these sectors?

Electronic Services
Electronic service delivery is still a fully untapped business opportunity in Nigeria although not fully implemented at some levels in the country; it is good you have vast knowledge added with skills. Also, creating a niche for yourself will be of high value as you may end up being an independent consultant. Under the umbrella of providing e-services; you can find the following fast growing business opportunities: E-payment, Bulk SMS, Short Code SMS, Web Design and Hosting, Data Base Management Services, e-portal management, etc.

With the deplorable state of the Nigeria schools (structure and lecturing methodology wise), Nigerians appreciate and will grace any opportunity to attend a well organized “out of school experience” lecture or seminar that offers grounded and valid information and solutions to pressing and trending challenges. Setting up a consultancy firm or an enterprise that organizes coaching services with respect to the void and needs created by the country at a time won’t be a bad idea.

Training Centers
Even after graduation, some institutions or companies would want their proposed employees to gain certain level of training or experience. On the other hand there are those who fancy starting up their own ventures (young or old as the case maybe). The idea here is for you to be able to know your niche (area of expertise) and start up specialized training or educational centers in other to cater for these needs. This business opportunity is handled with light hands in Nigeria; trust me when I tell you it is highly lucrative. Examples of specialized training centers are Leadership training schools, entrepreneurial centers, Finishing schools (training centre for etiquette, hobbies, crafts, etc.)

Starting a Child Care Center Program
The number of full-time housewives in Nigeria’s urban areas is on a rapid decline. This is due to the fact that more Nigerian women are working at paid jobs or running their own small businesses. As a result of this trend, there is a growing opportunity for convenience services like crèche and daycare businesses. More middle class families can now afford these services and they appreciate the value they add to their children’s early mental and emotional development. Aside taking care of children on behalf of their parents on a daily basis, a daycare centre may also provide basic tutoring and educational activities to these kids.
It is an exciting and fulfilling prospect for anyone with a passion and natural energy for children. Therefore, if you have passion for looking after children and you love being around them, starting a daycare centre is a smart business choice.
