How did you come about the foundation? (the why)
In 2012, I suffered great pain from the loss of my sister. She had pregnancy complications which could have easily been avoided. I was angry at the health system in the country that so greatly let my sister down. I drew strength from my pain to help other women especially women who may never have the opportunity my sister had. According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria remains one of the 10 most dangerous countries for any woman to give birth in. It's unfair for women to die in the process of bringing forth life unfortunately for Nigerian women, it's a phenomenon they are used to.

What is the name of the Foundation?
Theodora Anavhe Adamu Foundation (TAAF)

How long have you been on it?
2 years

Tell us about the challenges thus far?
For our project targeted at young people, our initial intention was to use government schools. But the whole response from the secondary education board has been really slow.
Another great challenge we have faced with our project that targets rural mother's is the poor health system. So these women are encouraged to get to health facilities for antenatal and post natal checks and they get there against all odds to wait so long before they are attended to, some times the attitude of the nurses discourages them and so on.

Who are your major sponsors?
Family, friends, Shoprite, good spirited people, I have gotten a grant from a Swiss Foundation.

If an intending sponsor were to be reading this what will be your plea?
I'd ask the sponsors to go through our website www.taafng.org or our Facebook page at Theodora Anavhe Adamu Foundation and find a project of interest to fund.
